I decided to start this blog about one of my interests (dance music and DJing) as outlet for another (writing). I am by no means a master at the craft of either. Most bloggers my age have blogs relating to their profession, or business if their profession is entrepreneurship, or to support or promote their writing or art. This isn't one of those blogs.
At 39, I'm an oddity in that I still listen to electronic dance music (EDM), and am learning to digital DJ. I have a successful and fulfilling career as a software developer and database administrator. However, I do not let that career define me as a person. I keep a healthy work-life balance, and in my personal time, collecting, listening to, and mixing dance music, especially house and trance is one of my hobbies. I try to make it out to a few live shows a month, both to hear my favorite national and international talent, and to support the numerous friends and acquaintances I've made in the dance music industry, and larger rave family.
I don't have any formal musical training past 8th grade band, nor would I consider myself a musician. I do not produce, nor do I intend to become a producer. I would like to learn the basics of deconstruction and reconstruction to indulge my love of mash-ups, and may cover my experiences in that area at some point in the future, but for now, this blog will focus on music that speaks to me, observations about mixing and DJing from a hobbyist and newbie's perspective, and someone who spends way to much time in his home office in front of a computer monitor, keyboard, and DJ controller. In short, a Desk Chair DJ.
